“Miss, not to be impolite, but… you might be in the wrong restroom.”
Jevan expected his words to jolt the girl in front of him into action, but she continued to hum while scrubbing her uniform in the sink, unfazed.
What the hell, is she deaf?
Returning his gaze to the mirror in front of Kiran, he noticed her focused downward stare. It dawned on him that she was wearing wireless earphones, likely oblivious to his presence.
His gaze involuntarily widened as he observed Kiran. It traveled from her chin down to her bra-clad upper body, lingering on her curves. He was captivated, unable to tear his eyes away from her.
Stunned, he felt a rush of blood through his body and goosebumps prickling his skin. A sudden urge to step closer to her overwhelmed him.
However, instead of succumbing to his wild thoughts, Jevan calmly turned around and exited the restroom. Once outside, he closed the door behind him and leaned against it. Taking a deep breath, the guy pressed one palm to his flushed face.
That was… DANGEROUS! He muttered internally with his heart still racing. Why am I suddenly thinking about ‘those’ things?
I shouldn’t have just stayed there looking at her! How am I any different from those weirdos who like to peek at girls in the shower? What’s wrong with me?
Jevan shook his head vigorously and rubbed his face. After a moment, he remembered he wasn’t the one in the wrong place—it was the receptionist’s revealing appearance in the men’s restroom that made him go awry.
Is she doing it on purpose to get guys’ attention? Is she a tease?
Annoyed and slightly flustered, Jevan turned back toward the restroom door. It took him almost a minute to regulate his breathing before he mustered the resolve to re-enter. However, just as he reached for the handle, a hand tapped his shoulder from the side.
“Jevan, you’re here!” Selia, his fiancée, exclaimed with slightly panting breath.
“I was looking for you all the way to the meeting room, but Paskal said you went to the toilet,” Selia continued with an enthusiastic look on her face. “There’s good news. My acquaintance in the police just called me. They’ve tracked down the position of one of the two men we’ve been searching for since eight years ago.”
“One of the… what?”
“The murderer of my mom and dad. The person we’ve been seeking is reportedly on a ship traveling from overseas to Indonesia. Soon, the ship will dock at Tanjung Priok harbor, and the police, already stationed there, will apprehend him immediately.”
Jevan suddenly seemed to be thinking. Not long after, he walked quickly away from Selia who was still standing in front of the toilet.
“Jevan, where are you going?” Selia shouted from behind, confused.
“Paskal and I will take care of this right away,” Jevan replied. “Before the police find him, I need to catch him first and torture him.”
“B—but Jevan ….”
Selia’s words trailed off as she watched Jevan’s retreating figure vanish down the hallway. The girl sighed and was about to walk after Jevan. However, the sound of a girl humming from inside the restroom door beside her brought her steps to an instant halt.
Am I hearing it right? Is that… Kiran’s voice?
She turned her head towards the closed door, examining the symbol on it. Once she was sure that the toilet in front of her was a men’s restroom, she opened the door and looked inside.
What was in front of her at that moment clearly made her very surprised. Although she stayed there for a while with an expression like she was holding something back, she then decided to walk towards Kiran.
As soon as she was beside Kiran, Selia’s hand immediately pulled the earphone out of the girl’s ear. Seeing Kiran jump in surprise, Selia suddenly offered her a smile.
“You seem to be enjoying yourself singing while doing laundry here?” Selia remarked, eyeing Kiran’s wet uniform in the sink.
Kiran, who was still very surprised, blinked at Selia. Reflexively, she immediately pulled her body back from her past friend who was standing too close to her.
“Is your uniform dirty?” Selia asked again.
Kiran immediately nodded. “I’m sorry, Selia… I mean, Ms. Selia. I spilled coffee on my uniform earlier and Dika told me to wash it right away. That’s why I’m trying to wash it here so I can wear it again right away.”
“Dika?”
“He’s… a fellow receptionist here.”
Selia took a deep breath. “So you came here and washed your clothes nearly half-naked?”
Kiran suddenly looked down to see her own appearance. As soon as she remembered that she was still exposed, she reflexively covered her upper body with both hands.
“Uh, I forgot. I think it’s usually the quietest time for the front restroom because everyone is busy at work and guests haven’t arrived yet.”
“You said ‘usually’? As far as I know, you’ve only been here for two days, right?” Selia asked again.
Although Aldi’s ex-girlfriend’s tone was not high, Kiran could clearly see her anger. “I don’t think a fellow woman would—“
“This is a men’s restroom,” Selia quickly interrupted. “This is a men’s restroom, and since it’s the front restroom, the company guests who come usually use this toilet too.”
Kiran was silent for a moment. But with a puzzled expression, she then looked at the toilet room around her and observed it carefully. As soon as she saw that there was a row of urinals next to the row of cubicles, the girl let out a stifled exclamation with a shocked face.
“I swear, I really didn’t realize this,” she said, embarrassed and nervous. “My eyes were sore from the coffee. I immediately entered here and thought it was the women’s restroom because I saw a female janitor from inside. I didn’t think to check—“
“You know that female janitors occasionally clean men’s restrooms, right?” Selia said. “But even when they do, they have to check whether there are men in the restroom or not.”
“But you…,” she continued, “you came in here carelessly, took off your clothes, and then… you sang while washing your clothes and made the floor under the sink wet.”
Panicking, Kiran immediately grabbed a tissue from the top of the sink to wipe the wet floor beneath her. However, Selia’s hand suddenly pulled back her shoulder to stand up. Now, Jevan’s fiancée took another deep breath, and forced herself to smile at Kiran again.
“Another employee is responsible for mopping the toilet floor,” she said while still touching Kiran’s shoulder in front of her. “You’ve only been here for two days, so I’ll treat this as a minor mistake for now. You’d better put your clothes back on and leave this restroom. Next time, try to do things like this in the PR team’s makeup room. Do you understand?”
Because she was afraid of being fired, Kiran immediately nodded like a robot.
After that, Selia let go of Kiran’s shoulder and left. Despite walking out of the restroom door, she didn’t immediately follow Jevan. Because she still remembered clearly that she had seen Jevan standing in front of the toilet for a while, Selia decided to go to the technician’s room first.
There, the girl immediately approached a male employee who was standing guard in the inner room and smiled at him. Being surprised to see someone of Selia’s stature in front of him, the technician was extremely excited.
“Can I ask you a favor?” Selia asked the technician kindly. “May I see the CCTV footage of the restroom hallway in front of Baven Technology for the past hour?”
“CCTV footage of the front restroom hallway, ma’am?” the technician repeated in confusion.
“I accidentally dropped something, but I’m not sure if I dropped it when I was chatting with Jevan there… or maybe somewhere else,” Selia replied. “That’s why I need to see the CCTV first.”
The employee immediately nodded. “Of course, ma’am. I’ll replay the CCTV footage for you right away.”
Selia smiled again. About half an hour later after viewing the contents of the CCTV footage, Selia finally came out of the Baven Technology technician’s room again. Only, the girl’s face… was no longer smiling like before.

Jevan Baven’s House, 10:00 PM
“You’re staying over?”
Paskal Baven looked very surprised when he saw Selia’s presence in Jevan’s house that night. She was sitting quietly in the living room on the second floor, wearing only a thin kimono wrapped around her nightie.
“You haven’t stayed over here for a long time. Whenever you come, you always go straight back to your apartment,” Paskal remarked. “How come now you want to stay over here again.”
“It was my parents who were murdered, so obviously I’m the one who deserves to be here to hear the reason why the murderer did it,” Selia replied with a cold expression. “I have the right to know, I told Jevan about that person’s position, but you guys secretly brought him here without telling me at all?”
“Jevan just didn’t have time to tell you about the development,” said Paskal defending Jevan. “He and I have been interrogating that Dudi guy in the basement for seven hours and we haven’t gotten any results. You know that the cell phone signal down there isn’t very good, right?”
“Even if we had gotten information from him, there’s no way Jevan wouldn’t tell you,” he continued. “The man named Dudi didn’t even want to tell us where his other partner was. Jevan wanted to beat him up so many times. Do you know that Jevan doesn’t care about legal risks?”
After saying that, Paskal suddenly touched his own neck and shoulder area. “Ah, if I remember how I and the others had to keep preventing Jevan from killing him, my body suddenly feels sore again. What has Jevan been eating to have that much energy?”
Seeing that Selia did not react to his joke, Paskal then changed the subject. “If you’re already here, that means you’ve also met Jevan and heard from him yourself earlier. Is he asleep?”
Selia nodded even though her face remained unfriendly. “He’s tired. I gave him his usual medicine, so he’s sleeping well now.”
The girl then stood up from her chair. “I’m going to bed now too. But I’ll give you a suggestion, you should think quickly about what you’re going to tell the police when they find out who brought that person from the harbor. The police will obviously consider your actions as kidnapping.”
Paskal was silent. Just as Selia was about to walk away, a gunshot suddenly rang out from below Jevan’s house. Both Selia and Paskal, who obviously heard the sound, immediately looked at each other with surprised expressions on their faces.
Reflexively, Selia then ran towards Jevan’s room, which was not far away. As soon as she opened it, she suddenly shouted at Paskal in a nervous voice.
“Pa—paskal, Jevan’s not in his room!”
Paskal was wide-eyed. Panicked, he decided to run downstairs immediately.
“Selia, basement!” he shouted as he darted towards the stairs.
As Selia and Paskal raced downstairs, a woman’s scream echoed from the same direction as the gunshot. Hearing that, both Paskal and Selia immediately accelerated their footsteps towards the basement.
However, what the two of them saw next sent a shock through them. At the basement door, there was already a maid crouched on the floor crying in fear, as well as Paskal’s mother on the phone with the police.
Meanwhile, inside, Jevan was standing and staring coldly at Dudi, the suspect in Selia’s parents’ murder… who was now officially a corpse.
