Block One, 11.00 CST (nine hours before the lock island system activates)
“Are all these people from Block Three?” Somsak asked, squinting through the rain as a group of residents from Block Three hurried towards the lobby of Block One. “There seem to be quite a lot of them.”
“This is only half of them. There should be more than 70 people in Block Three,” Danica replied, also observing them. “Something must have happened inside Block Three if they’re coming out again and running here.”
Somsak furrowed his brow. “I didn’t know there were kids on this island. How did they end up in such a dangerous place?”
“One baby and a pair of seven-year-old twins,” Danica said with a sigh. “The baby was born here; the twins… they were brought to this island by their dad. I don’t know why they fled their country and how they ended up here.”
Kiya, who stood alongside Somsak and Danica, glanced towards the pair of red-haired twins huddled in the corner of the terrace, their soaked bodies trembling with fear.
“They’re here now, so they need to be rescued first,” she murmured, her expression reflecting her concern.
As she wiped her wet face, Kiya turned her attention to the window on the second floor of Block One. “The height isn’t even four meters, but even though the pipes are made of galvanized material with a rougher surface, they’re not designed to support the weight of a human body. There’s still potential danger if the pipe fittings come loose.”
Noticing Danica’s puzzled expression, Somsak whispered, “She’s the sharpest one among us.”
“What was her name again?” Danica asked.
“If I recall correctly… Kiya, though we usually refer to her as the Scholarship Girl.”
“Kiya, how much do you weigh?” Danica asked, glancing towards Tyrell and Bayu at the far right end who were still heard firing their weapons towards the back of Block One.
“I weigh 48,” Kiya replied. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to climb in this rainy condition, but… I’ll try my best to climb up.”
The three then turned towards the loud voices of the Block Three residents pounding on the lobby door of Block One. Almost all of them were now shouting to be let in.
“Don’t just try to climb up, try to climb quickly,” Danica said with a hint of panic. “They could break through the door of Block One at any moment and make the situation here even riskier for all of us.”
After saying this, Danica ran off, leaving Somsak and Kiya on the outside of the terrace, to stand guard on the left side of Block One as instructed by Tyrell. Seeing the increasingly chaotic situation on various sides of Block One, Kiya didn’t want to waste any time.
The girl then rushed to climb up. However, after just a brief attempt, she slipped and fell back down.
“Scholarship Girl, are you okay?” Somsak asked, his expression filled with concern.
He had just heard gunfire and shouts again from the right side of Block One. Meanwhile, from the left side, he continued to hear people pounding on the lobby door accompanied by angry shouts.
“I’m okay. Just pray that I can climb up before the situation here turns chaotic,” Kiya quickly replied.
Quickly removing her shoes, she stomped on the sand with her bare feet. After doing so, she took a deep breath and made another attempt to climb up.

On the right side of Block One
“Kevin, hurry up and run! What’s wrong with you?!”
Daniel yelled at Kevin, who still looked angrily towards Block Three as he was pulled towards Block One. Meanwhile, beside him, Gina was starting to look paler due to fever and her escalating stress.
“I’m going to kill her,” Kevin muttered, his gaze still fixed on the building of Block Three they were leaving. “I’m going to kill that girl, Lilia!”
“F**k! Why can’t you just focus on running at a time like this?!” Daniel scolded angrily. “It’s raining! Can’t you see Gina’s condition?! She needs help as much as the girl you took to Block Three earlier!”
Realizing he misspoke, Daniel then wiped the rain from his face. After observing the predators in front of Block Three, which were still busy attacking some latecomers from the lobby, he looked back at Kevin.
“Kev, listen,” he continued, his tone softening, “don’t blame yourself for the situation in Block Three earlier. You were just trying to help someone who was injured, but that girl used you to get into the most crowded area of this prison. It’s not your fault you took her to Block Three; you didn’t know anything about her or this island.”
Kevin just fell silent. Nevertheless, he then turned to Gina and only gazed at his ex-girlfriend with a silent, pitying look.
“Did you guys hear that earlier?” Daniel continued. “Just now, there were gunshots from the direction of Block One. That means there are other armed parties in Block One besides Kevin. We’ll be safer once we get there.”
“But… three soldiers in Block Three earlier were armed too,” Gina responded, her voice trembling. “Didn’t you see many of these zombies were from the military? If armed and highly trained soldiers can die or turn into terrifying monsters like that, how about us?”
“We’ll be fine,” Daniel replied, trying to sound reassuring. “There are many of our friends in Block One. Once we’re all together, we’ll immediately think of the best way to get off this island, okay? After all, meeting people we’ve known for a long time in a strange place like this will surely make us feel calmer later.”
Just as he said that, screams suddenly echoed from the second floor of Block Three behind them. Both Daniel, Kevin, and Gina, now turned to the source of the noise, seeing two men suddenly jumping out of one of the windows there.
Surely a few seconds later after the two men fell to the ground, they desperately tried to stand up again. However, because of their extreme actions, the predators who were still busy with their prey at the end of the Block Three terrace, immediately turned their attention to them.
Knowing that the predators were starting to target them, the two men sprinted towards the path Daniel and his friends were taking. With the pack of predators now in pursuit of the men, Daniel and Gina wasted no time in fleeing ahead.
“Damn it! What’s wrong with those two?!” Daniel cursed in panic as he ran swiftly towards Block One.
Gina, running beside him, glanced back and suddenly halted her steps.
“Da—Daniel, wait,” she gasped. “Kevin… he…”
Daniel also halted his run. As soon as he noticed Kevin wasn’t beside them, he swiftly turned around. Shock washed over him as he saw Kevin still in his original position, standing and aiming at the predators chasing the two men.
“WHAT IS HE DOING?!” Daniel exclaimed, his jaw dropping in shock. “He’s still putting others before himself?! Has he suddenly become obsessed with killing those damn zombies?”
Kevin himself remained motionless from his position. Once the two men had passed him, he began firing at the predators in front of him. However, what the man didn’t consider in his attempt to act heroically was… his remaining ammunition.
It was only after firing three shots at the approaching predators that Kevin, known for his recklessness, finally realized he had run out of bullets. This realization immediately silenced him.
I’m out of bullets? He looked at his own gun with a suddenly pale face. I’m so dead!
He was stunned, staring at the frontmost predator about to leap towards him. However, fortune favored him once more. Before the predator could attack him, a fleeting shadow suddenly passed from his right side.
Kevin turned and witnessed his best friend, Bayu, swiftly sliding with lightning-fast movements, delivering a powerful spinning kick directly at the predator’s leg. As the predator fell to his knees, Bayu immediately leaped onto its shoulders, then pinned its head with his legs, while forcefully twisting his body.
The sound of cracking was immediately heard simultaneously with the breaking of the predator’s neck. However, Bayu didn’t stop there. He suddenly seized a sharp rock from the sand nearby and plunged it into the predator’s eye until the his eye was completely destroyed.
Once he made sure the creature no longer moved, Bayu stood up and glanced towards his horrified friends. At the same time, several more shots flew from behind Kevin, immediately incapacitating the other predators still behind Bayu.
Kevin, startled, quickly turned around and saw Tyrell also appearing there, carrying a weapon on his shoulder. His breath still seemed labored as he ran towards Kevin.
“Are you out of ammo?” Tyrell asked Kevin, who was still dazed, while handing another weapon to him. “Take Bayu’s weapon. He said he’s not used to handling a rifle. So, you can use it. You’re the most skilled shooter among them, right?”
“Bayu can shoot too,” Kevin replied, still looking bewildered. “It’s just that he’s more accustomed to using a pistol than a rifle.”
Daniel, who had just noticed their aircraft pilot, approached Tyrell and whispered, “Captain, what’s wrong with Bayu? Why does he seem so angry?”
“Maybe seeing his friend almost die earlier shocked him and made him feel guilty,” Tyrell replied. “Based on my experience, people who go through something like this will eventually improve and become much braver after experiencing the anger phase, like he is now.”
“He’s turning out to be an excellent close combat fighter,” Tyrell continued. “He’ll be very useful once he fully accepts the situation.”
“Captain!” Somsak’s panicked shout from a distance suddenly startled them all. “Up ahead… up ahead, things are getting worse! The predators are emerging from the left side of Block One and attacking the people there! Scholarship Girl…”
Before Somsak could finish speaking, almost all of them had already hurried towards Block One. They were taken aback when they arrived, finding that the atmosphere in the front area of Block One, which had seemed more manageable before, had suddenly descended into chaos.
Some of the people who had gathered in front of the door of Block One now seemed to have been gruesomely killed. Meanwhile, Danica was seen struggling alone to protect a mother carrying her baby, as well as the twins behind her.
On Kiya’s side, the situation grew even more terrifying. Out of fear, the remaining Block Three residents were now scrambling to climb the same pipe Kiya was using. Their actions not only caused the metal pipe supports to start coming loose one by one but also immediately drew the attention of a large horde of predators below them.
This terrifying situation prompted those who wanted to save themselves to try to reach Kiya’s legs because she was already reaching the window. However, what made Kiya’s situation extremely critical was… the girl was now hanging on the lower side of the broken second-floor window, with her hands already smeared with blood.
