After the Prom Night
“She’s somewhere close,” Antares mentioned to Xynth as he was steering their fancy SUV. Xynth sat beside him, with Rigel, the youngest, in the backseat.
“Remember her face?” Rigel asked Xynth.
“No,” said Xynth. “But we’ll spot her soon.”
“Damn it, the psychic should’ve been here to help us catch number fifteen, but once again Betelgeuse slipped away when we let our guard down!” Antares exclaimed, hitting the steering wheel.
“She won’t escape for long this time,” Xynth replied calmly. “Besides, I have no intention of catching that girl; I just want to confirm if the silver scar mark really exists on her body. Inhabiting a human female’s body is not something I’m willing to do. Betelgeuse must find another way out.”
“But what if she is indeed the fifteenth, and the only way out left for you is as Betelgeuse said?” Antares asked.
Xynth shot an irritated glance at Antares. “You seem pretty excited about the idea of a potential ruler of the universe living as a human female, huh? Imagine living for decades AS A HUMAN FEMALE, would you want that?!”
“Haha, just curious,” Antares chuckled. “But what’s it like being a human female? I heard they deal with menstruation and pregnancy—“
“Stop it, Antares!” Rigel interrupted, placing a hand on Antares’ shoulder. It was a familiar gesture between the two crown prince’s guards, always used to prevent Antares from riling up Xynth.
“It’s her, isn’t it?!” Antares exclaimed suddenly, spotting a woman walking unsteadily alone in the dark of the night. He felt relieved, knowing Xynth’s anger wouldn’t be directed at him upon seeing the appearance of the fifteenth.
“Yes, it seems to be her, Fortuna Ramaya,” replied Rigel, leaning forward for a better view.
“Why is she walking like that? Is she drunk?” Antares asked, slowing down their car. “And her outfit… why is she wearing something so tacky?! Even I, who’s not human, find her appearance appalling!”
“Her height is 158 centimeters,” Xynth muttered to himself, as if committing many details about the girl to memory. “She’s thin, with short and dry hair, and her skin seems unkempt. Now I’m even more convinced that Betelgeuse must be wrong. She’s just an amateur sorcerer!”
Antares struggled hard not to respond to Xynth’s words, and Rigel remained silent too. They both sensed Xynth’s denial and frustration.
“She must have some special abilities, right? Should we look for the silver mark on her body?” Xynth pondered aloud. “How can we spot the mark?”
Xynth rarely asked questions. Rigel understood that beneath his inquiries, he issued directives.
Both he and his mother shared the same characteristic traits. They were both wrathful, arrogant, and capricious. However, Rigel found it easier to deal with Xynth than his mother because if Xynth could still restrain his desire to kill, his mother couldn’t. She was the most terrifying woman Rigel had ever known.
“I’ll try to check from here,” said Rigel, lifting his index finger towards the woman outside, who was stumbling along the street.
He emitted a small blue ray from his finger, instantly illuminating the girl’s body as she faced away from them. A breeze blew her hair at the nape of her neck, and the three men in the car could see that there were no silver marks there.
“There’s nothing on her legs either,” Rigel continued, observing the woman’s calves that he had just illuminated with the light.
“Could the silver mark be on her thighs?” Antares asked, curious. This time, he blew wind under Fortuna’s dress, causing both Xynth and Rigel to scream in shock.
“What are you doing, you fool!” exclaimed Rigel, hitting Antares on the head. “Aren’t you ashamed to look at a girl’s intimate parts?”
“But it’s Xynth’s fifteenth body. We’ll see it plenty later anyway,” Antares replied innocently, causing Xynth’s eyes to instantly sparkle with anger towards him.
“If I have to become a girl, I’ll make sure you become one too!”
“I-I’m sorry, Xynth,” Antares said, suppressing his laughter. “But we really need to check everything, right? Who knows, maybe the silver mark is on her thighs or back, or chest, or that part—“
“Shut up!” Rigel yelled, refusing to imagine it. “The mark couldn’t possibly be in places like those. Who knows, it could be on the soles of her feet, palms, head, or face!”
This time, Xynth, impatient, suddenly lifted his finger and rotated Fori’s body from where she sat, causing her to fall to the ground. He then made the woman face towards their car. From a distance, Fori looked bewildered as she stared at her own body.
“Her face is so ugly,” Xynth muttered in disbelief at Fori’s strange drunken expression. His words once again rendered his two companions speechless.
Not stopping there, Xynth then lifted Fori’s hand and made the girl’s palm face towards them. Fori’s face looked confused as she felt her body moving on its own.
The poor girl was made to spin, fall, wake up, and be blown by the night wind. Xynth even made her somersault and sent her shoe flying – then made Fori’s sole face towards them until Fori sat gaping in her place and tumbled over.
After finding nothing there, Xynth now intended to shave the woman’s head by blowing all her hair away. But suddenly, the woman screamed, crying, and cursing. She still didn’t see Xynth’s car in front of her.
“Per-perhaps I should get down and ask her directly, it’s the most polite way,” Rigel said, starting to panic, fearing Xynth would harm the unfortunate girl. But Xynth stopped him.
“I’ll get down myself,” Xynth said suddenly. “I need to see her face to face.”
Before Rigel could speak, Xynth hastily opened the car door and got out.
“Do you think the girl’s life will be safe?” Rigel asked worriedly after seeing Xynth exit and walk confidently towards Fori. Antares just shrugged at the wheel and laughed.
“This is going to be fun!” he exclaimed gleefully.
In her place, Fori cried uncontrollably while sitting on the asphalt of the street. Her hair was now tangled from being blown all over by the strong wind. Her cheap loafers somehow flew off and detached from her feet.
Now, she lay there in a disheveled appearance, with black mascara smudged on her face from crying incessantly. Fori truly looked like a terrifying ghost in the middle of the road, feeling that her life was extremely unlucky that day.
“What is this?! First, Hannah, and now… even the wind wants to ruin my life. The sky must really hate me,” Fori muttered to herself, wailing with a completely messy appearance.
She then struggled to stand up in her place and glared angrily towards the stars in the sky. “DAMN UNIVERSE, DO YOU THINK I CARE IF YOU’RE AGAINST ME?!!!”
Xynth jumped in surprise hearing Fori’s screams as he walked closer towards her. His steps halted as he was astonished to see the girl passionately cursing at the sky nonstop.
Now I understand why this human girl received curses from the universe, Xynth thought to himself.
“Who are you?!” Fori suddenly snapped after turning around and seeing a man standing frozen, staring at her. Her intoxicated face turned bright red with anger and looked terrifying. “Are you here to destroy my life too?!”
Xynth didn’t immediately respond. He noticed the girl’s puffy eyes suddenly squinting.
“Wa-wait a minute, do I know you?” Fori continued, staring at Xynth, who that night wore only pajamas and white slippers.. “Your face seems very familiar.”
Xynth moved backward as he saw Fori getting closer to him. Suddenly, her hand gripped Xynth’s arm tightly, and she glared at Xynth’s face. The man shuddered in horror.
“I’ve seen your silver eyes,” Fori hissed, looking up at Xynth with alcohol-scented breath. “You… you’re one of the satanic cult freaks who stole Sega’s body, aren’t you?!”
“S–satanic cult freaks?” Xynth asked confusedly. He saw the angry glare on Fori’s face, but suddenly, the girl grimaced, and her cheeks bulged as if she were struggling against something.
“W-Wait a moment,” Xynth suddenly exclaimed, realizing the situation. He was about to flee, but it was too late. Fori had already vomited the contents of her stomach, which had been churning since earlier, directly onto Xynth’s chest, staining the man’s pajamas.
“I will kill you, f*cking human!” Xynth hissed, his face filled with fury. The crown prince could hear Antares laughing hysterically inside the car, and he immediately sent a hard slap to Antares’ face from afar.
“Sega, what should I do?” Fori suddenly said to Xynth in a soft voice, lowering her head onto the man’s chest. “What should I do? They’re all so cruel to me, and you’re no longer protecting me. What do I do now?”
Xynth saw Fori lift her sad face and look at him with streaming tears. She sobbed uncontrollably on Xynth’s chest, now appearing extremely fragile.
“I’m truly alone now, and they all hate me. Why did you leave me? Why won’t you remember me?” Fori screamed hysterically, pounding Xynth’s chest hard and continuing to cry.
Xynth was stunned. He had never seen a human girl cry directly to him, not on Earth, not on Kiklios, and not in the thousand years of his life on Earth. Xynth’s body froze, and for some reason, he became confused about what to do.
Just as he began to feel sympathy for Fori, suddenly the woman vomited once again, hitting Xynth’s clothes and reaching down to both his feet. He was about to let his overflowing emotions peak and throw the girl’s body to the end of the earth, but suddenly he froze.
The man saw a small silver ray of his own, appear from the back left shoulder of Fori as he touched her. Xynth’s silver eyeballs widened, and he became muted in shock. Just as he was about to touch his own silver ray on Fori’s shoulder, the girl suddenly moved.
“Wait a moment, I want to see something,” Xynth said to her. But Fori’s face looked confused as she stared at Xynth’s very serious face. She knew the man intended to touch her, and now she began to feel afraid.
“What are you gonna do to me?” Fori asked him, pushing Xynth’s hand away from her shoulder. Xynth didn’t answer and tried to touch Fori’s shoulder again.
“W-what do you want?” Fori asked again, this time taking a step back. She began to see Xynth as a dangerous stranger.
“Be quiet!” Xynth scolded her harshly as he forcibly opened the top of Fori’s dress, then touched Fori’s back shoulder with his hand.
“You… you are Number Fifteen,” Xynth whispered afterward, with a shocked expression.
Fori, who didn’t understand, just stood there gaping, feeling Xynth’s hand on the upper part of her back. A moment later, she realized and immediately landed a hard slap on Xynth’s face. The girl then screamed for help and tried to flee.
