“A father’s dwelling will always be open as a pathway home for his daughter.”
___
Warih (43) works as a street parking attendant and lives solely with his beautiful daughter, Kemala Fatimah (Mala, 11). During the Jakarta riots in May 1998, he tragically loses Mala, who shares physical characteristics with the ethnic Chinese community.
After days of desperate searching, Warih is devastated to discover Mala’s lifeless body. An autopsy reveals she was brutally assaulted by multiple men, leading to her untimely death. Despite Warih’s innocence, he is wrongly prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Eighteen years later, at the age of 61 in 2016, Warih decides to seek a judicial review of his case. It is during this process that the painful truth about what truly happened to his daughter on May 13, 1998, is finally unveiled.
